COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Even Beavis & Butthead would know better than to eat at some of the places on the latest State Health Department list of restaurants surveyed between March and June, 1997. From rodents coming through the doors to filthy employee habits, local restaurants show evidence of negligence and repeated offenses.

Far behind the pack was Ponderosa on S. Jefferson Avenue. With critical violations such as failing to keep potentialy hazardous food at safe temperatures, Ponderosa' score of 52 points out of a possible 100 singles it out as the least healthy place to eat in Cookeville.

On the other hand, 11 establishments received 90 or more points from the state.

The best grade went to Asylum Earth, 321 N. Jefferson Ave., with 98 of 100 possible.

Next comes Cane Creek Sportplex, 2200 W. Jefferson Ave., Cookeville, 95/100.
