It doesn't take a Tech grad to understand that candidates for public office intend to make their money back through the office in some other way than they spend, and the fund-raiser hand shake is just an election away from a hand in your pocket -- or in the case of urologist Mayor Charles Womack, M.D., a hand in your pants. As often as not, what they say when they run is a lie, and what they say when they are in office is a lie. Look at Court Clerk Lewis Coomer, who is a liar and a thief to boot. Cookeville City Attorney Mike O'Mara lets witnesses lie; District Attorney General Bill Gibson, who is responsible for prosecuting liars, himself lies under oath. City Manager Jim Shipley lies under oath when he said he did not know the city offered links from its Web site.

They are not the only liars, but they share a quality with other liars -- they hurt people, spin webs of deceit and rely on stupid targets, like voters, who don't protect themselves from their line of bull.

Trust me. Give me your credit card number, the keys to your apartment, your life savings. Let me hold your baby a moment. Smooth as honey, believable as a best  friend, con artists scam thousands of victims each year. Read about these cons, then think about the people you will vote for, because in their own way, whether by saying "I did not have sex with that woman," or "He's a good Christian gentleman," in the end, you get stuck with the liar and pay the price.
