Vehicles were most often returned; money, jewels, furs much less frequently SHOREWOOD, Wis. (June 28, 2005) -- Shorewood residents reported $129,978 in jewelry and precious metal as stolen between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2004, according to records obtained from the Shorewood Police Department. Another $19,532 in cash was reported missing, and $61,350 in motor vehicles were stolen. In all, police say Shorewood residents reported $327,799 worth of property stolen in 2004 and recovered property worth $70,666 last year, or 21.55 percent. The property was stolen in 385 separate incidents, from robberies at banks to nine purse-snatching, 56 shopliftings and one pick pocket. Stolen vehicles were the most frequently recovered property, with automobiles worth $60,200 returned to owners out of nine actual thefts with a value of $61,350. Police reported eight of 17 reported vehicle thefts were unfounded in 2004. Of a total 397 verified offenses of all kinds in 2004, police report that 90, or 22.6 percent were cleared.
