(June 17, 2005) -- The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office today charged Michael A. Simmons, a Shorewood High School custodian, with 'possession of firearm in school zone' (Class I felony), 'theft with a value less then $2,500' (Class A Misdemeanor) and 'theft with a value less then $2,500' (Class A Misdemeanor). Shorewood police arrested Simmons at the school on Wednesday, according to a statement by the department. "Mr. Simmons was suspected of using a TYME card stolen from a teacher’s wallet on June 13, 2005," Police Chief David Banaszynski said in a news release. "The card was used at two different locations in Shorewood." Banaszynski said in the release that while searching Simmons a handgun and a small amount of marijuana were discovered in a blue nylon carry bag in his possession. Possession of a controlled substance – Tetrahydrocannabinols (Marijuana) -- while armed and within 1000 feet of a school, park or housing project provides for enhanced penalty to other charges, Banaszynski said.
